SCOTT TRIMBLE
CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 1999

52nd INTERNATIONAL
FILM FESTIVAL at CANNES

  • Cannes Film Festival Report,
    by Scott Trimble.

In May 1999 I had the opportunity to attend the Cannes Film Festival in France. As representatives of the Oakland Film Commission, Jennifer Bauman, Alonika Burke, and I worked at the AFCI (Association of Film Commissioners International) Booth in the Mitic Pavilion, located inside the Palais and across from the Mif Pavilion. The AFCI is comprised of film commissions from all over the world. A few of the other representatives here at the festival with us included Australia, Missouri, San Jose (California), Alaska, South of France, Jamaica, England, and many more.

The three of us were thus able to advertise the fact that Oakland is a great place to shoot movies. We provided to people in the film industry our production guide, Film Oakland (in both English and French editions), and we also shared brochures about things of a special-interest in Oakland: Manex Studios, Enterprise Zone tax benefits, business listings, etc. We also offered our business cards and website address, and answered lots of questions. In addition I was able to promote the Northern California Movies website.

We had passes for the Cannes Market movies, and we also attended a formal red-carpet screening of a film that was in competition. All the movies that I saw are shown below....
