Sleep Deprivation
Bulletin Board #1, 7 September 1996
Since sleep deprivation is something that I often put myself through, I decided I would write about it for my first Bulletin Board topic of the year. I hope that Cals EECS majors, chem-e students, "Magic: The Gathering" and "Doom" players, and graveyard-shift workers can benefit from this as well!
With my late-night activities and studying, combined with my insane I-gotta-get-up- at-six-oclock- every-morning- including-Saturdays- and-Sundays routine, my personal motto has been Jon Bon Jovis line, "Ill sleep when Im dead". It makes sense, right? Why waste your life snoring under the covers? Two hours of extra sleep each night, added up over a lifetime of 75 years, equals 6.25 years! Imagine all that we could have done with that time!
But I guess I might be wrong after all! You see, theres a trade-off here. Sure, we lose that extra time, but in its place we gain better Health, and that is what makes the remaining days of our lives more worth living!
In the following pages that make up this display, you will find some reasons why you should sleep, tips on how to get better sleep, a study on hours of sleep versus ones GPA, a report on what actually makes us sleep, and some methods to stay awake for those occasional nights when you have a Bio 1B or Chem 112 midterm the next day! Pleasant Dreams....
